Barbara Traylor Wilkins

Barbara T. Wilkins, age 88, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2023 at the Petersburg Home for Ladies in Petersburg, VA.  She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph N. Traylor and Sallie Jones Traylor, as well as her husband of 55 years, Odie C. Wilkins, Jr. and a grandson, Christopher W. Wilkins.

She is survived by her sons, D. Wayne Wilkins (Carolyn) and David Lee Wilkins (Shirley); three grandchildren, Brian D. Wilkins (Maria), David Irby Wilkins and Anne Blair Pilong (C.J.); two great grandchildren, Christopher and Luca Wilkins; extended family James M. King (Crandall), Courtlyn and Kolby Partin; Andrew C. King (Mollie) Courtney, Arian and Etta; and Janet Lane (Stanley).

She was raised in Brunswick County and was a member of Bethel Methodist Church in Alberta, VA.  After her marriage to Odie, she moved to Dinwiddie County where she lived most of her life.  She was an active member of Sharon Baptist Church in Darvills, VA where she was a pianist for many years.  She retired from AAFES at Fort Lee, VA with 37 years of service.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the caring Community of Darvills, special caregiver Jessica Fore, the staff of the Petersburg Home for Ladies and At Home Care & Hospice.

A funeral service will be held at Sharon Baptist Church, 3:00 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2023, with Reverend Chris Hillman officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sharon Baptist Church, 4111 Darvills Road, Blackstone, VA  23824.
