Benjamin “Ben” T. Vincent, 61, of Heaters, WV left this earth to be with the Lord on April 4, 2018 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV following a brief but heroic battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was the CEO of Braxton County Memorial Hospital in Gassaway, WV. He was a Fellow of the American Academy of Healthcare Executives.
Ben was born in Petersburg, VA and was raised in Emporia, VA. He was the son of B. Stuart and Jean M. Vincent.
Ben was a 1979 graduate of the University of Richmond where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree. He was a Wicker Foundation Award recipient during his sophomore year and member of ODK. He was a 1989 graduate of the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University where he earned a Master of Healthcare Administration degree.
Prior to moving to Braxton County, Ben and his wife, Cynthia, lived many years at Lake Gaston in Ebony, VA where he was the Assistant Vice President of Surgical and Ambulatory Services at Halifax regional Hospital in Roanoke Rapids, NC.
He was very active with the Boy Scouts of America. His youth accomplishments and awards include Eagle Scout, God and Country Award, and Vigil Honor Order of the Arrow. His adult accomplishments and awards include James E. West Fellow, NOAC advisor, Supreme Chief’s Award, Founder’s Award, United Methodist Scouters Committee Torch Award, District Award of Merit, and Silver Beaver Award. Ben served on the Mountaineer Area Boy Scout Council Executive Board as Treasurer.
Professional activities over the years include serving on the WV Chapter of American College of Healthcare Executives board member, West Virginia Hospital Association board member, WV Critical Access Hospital Network, Partners in Health Network board member, Braxton Gilmer Technology Research Zone board member, West Virginia Licensed Practical Nurse board member. He was the recipient of the America College of Healthcare Executives Regent’s Award.
He was a member of Gassaway United Methodist Church where he served as Lay Worship Leader. He also served on the West Virginia United Methodist Foundation as Treasurer.
Ben is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia Talbott Vincent of Heaters, WV. He is also survived by his parents, B. Stuart and Jean M. Vincent of Franklin, VA; sister Elizabeth “Betsy” (Kevin) Early of Bridgewater, VA; mother-in-law, Betty F. Talbott of Buckhannon, WV; brother-in-law, Brett L. (Renee) Talbott of Buckhannon, WV; two nephews, Emerson R. Talbott of Coeur D’ Alene, Idaho and Matthew Fox of Morgantown, WV; two nieces, Macey Early and Molly Early, both of Bridgewater, VA. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, B. L. Rusty Talbott.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2018 at Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2018 at the Gassaway United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Malick officiating.
Additional service will be 2 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2018 at the Prospect United Methodist Church, Ebony, VA, with visitation an hour before service.
Ben will be interred at Prospect United Methodist Church Cemetery in Ebony, VA.
