Chris K. Skordas, 75, of Prince George, VA passed away on February 24, 2024.
Chris was a deeply beloved father, husband, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend to all. He was born on November 10, 1948 in the tiny village of Dermati, Greece. Born into desperate poverty during the Greek Civil War, his difficult upbringing later forged an intense will to survive against all odds, and a lifelong compassion for others around him. He came to the United States in 1972 for economic opportunity, later founding and operating a successful business, the Mad Italian Family Restaurant in Petersburg, VA where he served customers and friends for close to 50 years.
Chris was predeceased by his mother Ekaterini Paspalari Skordas and a brother Tryphon Groumbas.
Chris is survived by his devoted wife of over 49 years Katerina Skordas; three sons, Kostas Skordas of Washington, DC, George Skordas of Prince George, VA and Thomas Skordas, along with his two grandchildren Christopher and Olivia and daughter-in-law Angela Mitchell of Fairfax, VA.
Also surviving are his brother Thomas Skordas of Petersburg, VA and two nieces (who he considered daughters) Katerina Skordas of Richmond, VA and Anastasia Skordas of Prince George, VA; nephew, Constantine Groumbas of Richmond, VA. Chris is survived by numerous family members in Greece including a sister, Toula Trasteli and brother-in-law Kosta Trasteli; nieces Athina Trasteli and Katerina Trasteli; and several other relatives including sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The visitation and Trisagion services will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Monday, March 4, 2024 at St. Elpis Greek Orthodox Church at 107 Memorial Avenue in Hopewell, VA.
Funeral services being held 10:00 am on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at St. Elpis Greek Orthodox Church at 107 Memorial Avenue in Hopewell, VA. There will be a private interment later on Tuesday March 5 at Southlawn Memorial Park in Prince George, VA.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Elpis Greek Orthodox Church or the National Kidney Foundation.
