The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 18, 2025 at Reedy Creek Baptist Church.
Christine Powell Lewis Holzbach Mathias, daughter of Moses Powell, Sr. and Sallie Ingram Powell, passed away Sunday, January 5, 2025.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, Robert Benjamin Lewis and Hubert Lee Holzbach, a daughter, Sally Jane Lewis, a sister, Elizabeth Harris, two brothers, Moses Powell, Jr. and Leroy Powell. She is survived by her husband, Forrest Mack Mathias, a daughter, Roberta Grinstead (Tony), a grandson, William Henritze (Renee), and a great-grandson, Jeremiah Henritze.
She was a member of Reedy Creek Baptist Church for 80 years, where she served as WMU leader, Clerk of the Church, choir member and Sunday school teacher. She was also a charter member and life member of Brunswick Volunteer Rescue Squad Auxiliary and a life member of the State Auxiliary. She retired from Brunswick Box Company after being employed for thirty and a half years as bookkeeper. A job she loved and felt her employers and fellow workers were family.
She wished to be remembered by her service to her God through serving her fellow man.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 18, 2025 at Reedy Creek Baptist Church, Freeman, VA, followed by interment in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Reedy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 17, Freeman, VA 23856.
