Donald Clifton Simmons, age 76, a lifelong resident of Dinwiddie County, passed away suddenly on March 6, 2023.
Donnie served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. After returning home, he began a lifelong career in construction. He was co-owner of Simmons & Simmons Builders for many years and was well-known as a skilled craftsman. He continued to work hard until the day he died. He was an avid golfer and a longtime member of The Country Club of Petersburg. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family deeply.
Donnie was preceded in death by his parents Claude C. and Thelma Wray Simmons, his beloved wife Mary Ann Rolland Simmons; and two brothers Ray Simmons and Richard Simmons. He is survived by his daughters, Crystal Simmons Spiers and husband Neal and Crissy Simmons Capell and husband Junnie; grandchildren Jacob Cliborne and wife Gabby, Adam Spiers, Macy Montgomery and husband D.J., and Austin Spiers; great-grandchildren Aubree and Carter Cliborne, and Avery Montgomery; a nephew Scott Simmons and wife Christy; a cousin and close friend Alexander Simmons and wife Janice.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Smyrna Baptist Church, 18971 Carson Road, Dinwiddie, VA 23841, followed by interment at Southlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
