Douglas McArthur Tomlin, age 79, of McKenney, VA, passed away Friday, March 25, 2022.Born and raised in Hopewell, VA, he was the son of the late Nettie Pearl and Jesse St. James Tomlin. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Laurie Cline; six brothers, J.C., Bubba, Carl, Rennie, Oscar, and Stan; and his former wife, Judy, mother of Mark.
Mr. Tomlin loved and played football, as well as baseball and basketball. He was an avid NASCAR fan and had an extensive collection of memorabilia. He and Pat enjoyed line dancing together and were members of several clubs that would perform at area convalescent centers and hospitals. He loved to listen to his wife and friends karaoke. He retired after a career with the IRS.
Mr. Tomlin is survived by his wife, Patricia Jones Tomlin; son, Mark Tomlin (Cindy); stepdaughter, Kathy Christian (Jeff); grandchildren, Brandon Gibbs (Shannon), Amanda Perry (Tim), Melissa Aboulhosn (Jamil), Austin Cline, Steven Cline, Tori Davis (Michael), and Devan Farrish; great-grandchildren, Aaron, Charleigh, Addie, Cooper, JudyMae, Saveena, Chandler, Ember, Gracelynn and Zachary. He is also survived by a devoted brother-in-law, Larry Hipps, a number of nieces and nephews; his close childhood friend, Richard Nesbitt (Isabelle) who was also his golf buddy, and his friend, Ben Owens (Paige). Everyone that knew Doug loved him.
A celebration of life will be held Friday, June 10, 2022 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Dinwiddie Moose Lodge, 7212 Boydton Plank Rd, N. Dinwiddie, VA 23803. Arrangements are by Williams Funeral Home & Crematory of Lawrenceville, VA. Condolences may be expressed at www.williamsfuneralhomeva.com.
