Eddie Granderson “Stokes” Crane, age 100, a lifelong resident of Edgerton, VA, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2022.He was the son of the late W.B. and Pattie Jane Pittard Crane and was also preceded in death by two brothers, W.B. Crane, Jr. and Wilbur “Tom” Crane, a sister, Irene Barnes, a daughter-in-law, Betty Crane, and a great-grandson, Coy Mitchell.
Mr. Crane was recently widowed by his wife of 76 years, Louella Thomas Crane. Stokes served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS James E. Craig. After completing his military service, he returned to Edgerton and became a lifelong farmer. He remained devoted to the family farm, his church, and his community.
He is survived by his children, Tom Crane, Ronnie “Bubber” Crane, Jane Ward (Dan), Gary Crane, Ed Crane (Michelle); grandchildren, Tim Crane, Kevin Crane, Melissa Hyde (Bob), Kurt Crane (Christy), Jaime Mitchell (Jonathan), Brad Morefield (Tara), Corey Morefield (Brooke), Megan Weaver (Land), Eric Crane, Allison Lynch (Kurt), and Logan Gainey, 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Howard B. Crane; and a sister, Patsy Betz. The family expresses their sincere thanks to Tiffany Spratley, who cared for Mr. and Mrs. Crane during their final months.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at Edgerton United Methodist Church. A graveside service will begin at 3:00 p.m. at Edgerton Cemetery.
