Edward Arthur Martin, Jr., age 89, of DeWitt, VA, went to be with the Lord on August 2, 2022.He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward A. Martin, Sr. and Minna Williams Martin; his loving wife of 60 years, Alease Pritchett Martin; a son, Stanley Wade Martin; and a grandson, Edward Arthur “Artie” Martin, III. Mr. Martin was a 1950 graduate of Dinwiddie High School. After serving in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955, he worked as a machinist at Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company in Petersburg for 30 years, until the plant closed. In 1985, he went to work for the U.S. Postal Service as the Rural Mail Carrier for his hometown of DeWitt, VA. He retired in 2003 with 18 years of service and returned to his true passion, farming. He loved spending time with his family on the farm and spoiling his grandchildren. He was a lifelong member of Rocky Run United Methodist Church, a member of DeWitt-Rocky Run Ruritan Club, an Honorary Member of Rocky Run Hunt Club, and one of the founding members of Rocky Run Ballpark. He is survived by a daughter, Susan Martin Hayes (William); a son, Edward Dale Martin (Gayle); daughter-in-law, Vicki Martin; granddaughter-in-law, Lisa Martin Gwaltney; grandchildren, Elisha Crenshaw (Brian), Derek Martin (Kelsey), Elizabeth Toth (Michael), Allison Martin, Justin Hayes (Lindsey), and Mandy Toth (Bo); 13 great-grandchildren, and twin great-great-granddaughters. He is also survived by two sisters, Lois Thompson and Clara Lewerenz; a brother-in-law, Travis Pritchett (Bertha), as well as several nieces and nephews and many friends. A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 7, 2022 at Rocky Run United Methodist Church followed by interment in the church cemetery.
