Edward Ashton Smith

Edward Ashton “Butch” Smith, age 77, of Brodnax, VA, passed away Saturday, October 31, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, George B. and Josephine Moore Smith, and a sister, Dorothy Smith Adkins. Butch served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a retired welder and pipe fitter for Newport News Shipbuilding. After retiring, he returned to Brunswick County and cared for his aging mother until her death. Butch is survived by a sister, Hattie Smith Browder as well as two nieces, Brenda B. Bouchillon (Jimmy) and Kathy B. Moss (Mike). A graveside funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 8, 2020 at Union Woods Cemetery, Brodnax, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Brunswick EMS, P.O. Box 399, Lawrenceville, VA 23868. Services are by Williams Funeral Home & Crematory of Lawrenceville, VA.
