Elmer Clark Pixley, age 95, of Dinwiddie, VA, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2023. The son of the late Walter C. and Lillie B. Pixley, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Rachel Kibler Pixley; and four siblings, Daphne, Wayne, Betty Jo, and Joyce.
He is survived by his daughter, Lynda P. Ragsdale and husband Scott; grandchildren, James Scott “Jim” Ragsdale and wife Jennifer, John Clark “Jay” Ragsdale and wife Samantha, and Tyler Hamilton Ragsdale and wife Sarah; great-grandchildren, Audrey, Quinn, Darby, Mary, Bracey, Avery, Evie, and Abell, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Having served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, Elmer moved with his wife to Chase City, VA where he was very active in church and civic organizations. He worked for several Chevrolet dealerships until, in 1964 he was offered the opportunity to begin the Power Mechanics class in the high school vocational program. After 25 years in education, he retired to Dinwiddie to be near his family. There he was very active at Lebanon UMC where he served in various offices as well as volunteering for any job that needed doing. He became an active volunteer in several capacities for the Dinwiddie County educational system. He accumulated enough hours in the schools and in the Red Cross that he was selected by the State of Virginia to be honored for his volunteer work. He enjoyed hobby farming and woodworking along with vacationing and going out to eat.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Lebanon United Methodist Church, 12450 Courthouse Road, Dinwiddie, VA 23841. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. at Crestview Memorial Park, La Crosse, VA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the church.
The family wishes to recognize the staff of Dunlop House and Serenity First Hospice for their sincere service and loving care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lebanon UMC, P.O. Box 156, Dinwiddie, VA 23841 or to Dunlop House, 235 Dunlop Farms Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA 23834, for the benefit of their residents and outstanding staff.
