Frances Moore Valentine Rawlings, 95, passed away quietly on January 26, 2016. She was born in Valentines, Virginia November 17, 1921 to the late Lewis Randolph Valentine and Mattie Moore Kidd. Additionally, she was predeceased by her husband, Lloyd Taylor Rawlings and his mother, Estella “Stella” Rawlings and her sisters Charlotte Lewis Valentine and Helen Harrison Valentine Goodman. She is survived by one sister, Margaret Randolph Valentine Lechner and devoted nieces Lucy Rawlings Freedy, Barbara Valentine Goodman and Brenda Kay Goodman, and devoted nephews, David Lewis Goodman and Ronald Willis Goodman. Many special and devoted great and great-great nieces and nephews complete the list of immediate family survivors. She is also survived by special family friends, Kay and Jay Freeman, Sue Bopp, Thelma Daniels and Mary “Hackie” Haskins.
Frances graduated from Longwood College and taught school for several years before going to work for the federal Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (A.S.C.S.), in Lawrenceville, Virginia, where she worked until her retirement.
She was an active member of the Southside Homemakers Club and in retirement was very active in the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), as well as serving in leadership roles at her retirement home, Brookdale Imperial Plaza, where she was on the Residents’ Council, and a member of the Imperial Plaza Foundation Board. The family would like to thank the staff at the Azalea Building for treating Mrs. Rawlings with kindness and love, as well as Dale Lipke and the hospice staff of Aseracare. The service for Frances will be held at Williams Funeral Home, Lawrenceville, Virginia on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at 2 PM with interment immediately following the service at the Rock United Methodist Church Cemetery.
