Henry Wendell Roehrich, age 90, formerly of Lawrenceville, VA passed away peacefully at his residence in Richmond, VA on Tuesday, March 27, 2018. Born April 3, 1927 in Boonton, NJ, he was the son of the late Henry Roehrich and Johanna (Straub) Roehrich. Henry was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia, their son, Robert E. Roehrich, and a brother, Robert Roehrich.
Henry served his country in the US Navy during WWII. He was graduated from Rutgers University and was a proprietor of Roehrich Flowers of Hackettstown, NJ. He was active in Kiwanis and served as major of Washington Township, NJ.
He and his family moved to Brunswick Plantation, near Lawrenceville, VA in the late 1970’s where he raised beef cattle, and once hosted the renowned Budweiser Clydesdales. He served the area as Industrial Development Coordinator for Brunswick County and enjoyed the friendly rivalry with Brunswick, GA over the origin of Brunswick Stew.
He married his second wife, of 29 years, Barbara (Warriner) Roehrich, and moved to Northview Farm. There he enjoyed an active retirement filled with family visits and friendships cultivated over a long life.
Henry is survived by his wife, Barbara and his two children, a daughter, Seus Pierce (Thomas) of Bethlehem, GA and a son, Thomas Henry Roehrich (Susan) of Forest, VA. Six grandchildren have affectionately called him “PopPop,” Rebecca Vincent (Nick), Matthew W. Roehrich, Sarah Keefer (Brian), Rachel Lavoie (John) and Zechariah Pierce (Sara) and T. Aaron Pierce. Hank was additionally blessed by 9 great grandchildren: Emma, Audrey, Cade, Zane, Rhett, Samuel, Keelin, Henry Graydon, and Temple Scott. He is also survived by a brother, Kenneth Roehrich (Joan) of Hackettstown, NJ, and two nephews.
He enjoyed the extension of family when he married Barbara, and will be missed by her children, Susan Custer, David Warriner (Cindy) and Julia Boles (Martin), as well as their children Colin Custer, David Custer (Katherine), Evan Custer, Martha Warriner Powers (Joey), David Warriner, Ginny Boles, John Boles, Will Boles, Meredith Boles, Thomas Boles , Therese Boles, Charlie Boles, Jim Boles and Molly Boles Rose (Bob).
The family will receive friends at Williams Funeral Home, 410 Windsor Ave., Lawrenceville, VA on Thursday, April 5, 2018 from 10:30am to 11:30 am, concluding with a service celebrating Henry’s life. Interment and a graveside service will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
