James Hamilton “Bootie” Archer, 64, of Matoaca, VA, passed away Friday, October 9, 2020. A lifelong resident of Chesterfield County, he was the son of the late James Madison and Mabel Lee Hall Archer. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Kathy Archer (21 years), and a son, Christopher Luke Glasscock.
Bootie was the proprietor of Archer’s Grocery, Garage and Towing, a business started by his father in 1943, the oldest family owned business in Chesterfield County. He expanded upon his father’s desire to continue the tradition of supporting the local community with food, friendship and service in their time of need.
Beyond his business acumen, Bootie enjoyed a multitude of pastimes. He coached football for the Matoaca Association Football Junior team to three consecutive championship wins. He enjoyed the excitement of visiting NASCAR races with friends and traveling to the mountains to unwind. In addition, Bootie was a collector and restorer of classic cars, and the biggest Dallas Cowboys fan you would ever meet.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Donna Glasscock Archer; children, James Joseph Archer (Tara), Austin Robert Archer (Jocelyn), Brooke Glasscock Dimaio (Chris), and Larry Glasscock (Shelia); daughter-in-law, Heather Glasscock; grandchildren, Sutton, Mackenzie (Jake), Reilly, Holt, Gavin, Hadleigh, Paul, and William.
