James Edward “Ed” Johnson, age 80, a resident of Prince George, Virginia, passed away Monday, January 22, 2024.
Ed was born on December 31, 1943. He was the only son of the late James A. Johnson (KIA in WWII Pacific Theater) and Estelle Spain Crumpler; and stepfather Ashley Crumpler. Also preceded in death by former wife and devoted friend, Billy Sheely Johnson. He is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth Sheely Johnson and Ashley Machree Johnson, and her husband Darren DeSoi, who was a devoted son-in-law, grandson, William Sheely Nix, devoted companion, Terry McGowan, and business partner and dear friend, Laurie Michel.
Ed graduated from Petersburg High School and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. During his professional career as a tax accountant he formed lasting relationships with many clients, who also became close friends. Ed was a devoted and proud father to his two daughters, an avid hunter, and enjoyed all things nature and outdoors. Most of all Ed enjoyed cheering on his alma mater the Virginia Tech Hokies in all things sports, and followed the university’s various collegiate teams religiously.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 225 Claremont Street, Petersburg, Virginia 23805, and will conclude with a private burial at Blandford Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m.
