Johnie M. Carpenter, age 93, a longtime resident of Lawrenceville, VA, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2025.
Born and raised in Triplet, VA, he was a graduate of Lawrenceville High School, then went on to serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked as a hairstylist for most of his life and was the first unisex hairstylist in Lawrenceville. He was a musician and played the fiddle for the Riverside Cut Ups. Eventually, he went into the insurance business, and with his wife Evelyn, operated Citizens Insurance Agency in Lawrenceville. He was a longtime member of Pleasant Hill Christian Church and active in the Lawrenceville Lions Club for many years.
Mr. Carpenter was preceded in death by his mother, Lucy Norwood Carpenter, his wife of 70 years, Evelyn Wall Carpenter, and three siblings.
He is survived by a daughter, Beth Carpenter (Dan O’Brien); a granddaughter, Brittany “Bea” Clark; bonus granddaughters, Sydney Webb and Marni O’Brien; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and special friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Pleasant Hill Christian Church, Gasburg, VA, followed by interment in the church cemetery.
