Katherine L. Martinez

Katherine L. Martinez, age 76, of Hopewell, VA, passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2024. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she was received by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, according to His word, II Corinthians 5:8.

 Born in Petersburg, VA, she was the daughter of the late Robert J. and Dorothy Slate Woods. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ventura “Tony” Martinez, and a brother, Robert J. “Popeye” Woods, Jr.

Katherine resided in Cheyenne, WY for 31 years, during which she worked in civil service for AAFES and actively supported the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. She moved back to the area in 2020 and became an active member of Community Christian Fellowship where she especially enjoyed the Women’s Bible Study group.

Katherine is survived by her son, Gregory W. Richardson; grandchildren, Nick and Landis Richardson; a brother, Charles M. Woods; sisters, Betty L. Vinson, Diane Baggett (Bobby), and Margaret A. Eggleston, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the caregivers who made it possible for Katherine to be in her home, where she wanted to be, and cared for her in many ways, especially Terri Lane, Yvonne Hall, Alfreda Blake and the late Russell Blake, Lynn Moody, Deloris Tyree, and Amy Anderson.

A celebration of life will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, September 8, 2024 at Community Christian Fellowship, 1221 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 3:00 p.m. A time of food and fellowship will follow the service.
