Linwood Moss Hayes

Linwood Moss Hayes, age 92, of DeWitt, VA, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on January 25, 2025. Born on May 18, 1932 in McKenney, VA to the late Hugh Feild Hayes and Abbie Emerson Hayes. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Rachel Stegall Hayes.

 He was a member of Central Baptist Church, where he and his wife were baptized together March 19, 2006. He retired from Rochester Button Factory in 1997 after 40 years, and was a farmer for much of his life. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, watching westerns, playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and picking Nanny some of his beautiful flowers. He was known best for being a loving husband, father, Pa, uncle and friend. Also known to many as Uncle Curly, Bruh and Cornpicker. He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.

 Linwood is survived by his six children, Richard (Jasmer) Hayes, William (Susan) Hayes, Abbie (Gary) Bennett, Ron Hayes, Donna (Benny) Sheffield, and Lin (Tracie) Hayes; 16 grandchildren, Christy, Amanda, Elizabeth, Marie, Justin, Mandy, Carl Wayne, Cody, Taylor, Beth, Katie, Nick, Josh, Tammy, April, and Savana; 27 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchild; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

 The family would like to thank Terry Morgan for the compassionate care she provided for the last 2 years, the nurses from At Home Care Hospice, and family friend, Tammy Puckett. 

 Services will be held Friday, January 31, 2025 at Central Baptist Church, 6405 Courthouse Road, Church Road, VA 23833. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. A funeral service officiated by Pastor Bob Smith will begin at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Cut Banks Baptist Church in McKenney, VA.

 In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Central Baptist Church.
