Lloyd Meade "Buck" Harrison, III

With the Grace of God and unrivaled strength, our beloved Lloyd Meade “Buck” Harrison, III, passed into his Creator’s heavenly kingdom after a courageous battle with Covid. He was 57. Throughout his month long battle, he remained optimistic and continually gave a “thumbs up” to his healthcare team and family, who were able to FaceTime him. He was able to personally be with his family during his final hours. Buck was born on November 18, 1963, in McKenney, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd Meade Harrison, Jr. and Suzanne Peebles Harrison, and his brother Charles Holton Harrison. He was the grandson of Lloyd Meade Harrison and Lois Ferrell Harrison of McKenney, Virginia, and Marion Wooten Peebles and Dorothy Holton Peebles of Lawrenceville, Virginia. He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Kei Harrison, of Emporia, Virginia, sons, Stanley Meade Harrison and Holton Winfield Harrison of McKenney, Charles Henry Harrison of Richmond, Virginia, and Lloyd Benjamin Harrison of Oceanside, California, his brother, Marion Peebles Harrison, his sister-in-law, Avery Hesford Harrison of Duck, North Carolina and brother-in-law, Brian Kei of Chester, Virginia, nieces Suzanne Harrison, Morgan Kei and Kacey Kei and nephews, William and Smith Harrison. Known as “4 boys Harrison”, his sons were his life. Family would often characterize him as “Mama Buck” because he was a lot like his own mother in his instincts and care for his sons. To those who knew him best, he will be remembered as a quiet, honest, dependable, and good man; always quick with a nickname and witty comment. He enjoyed many visits from his family to his grandparents’ home place, right across the road from his own farm, where he was so happy to pass on traditions of hunting and stewardship of the land. Buck is survived by many family and friends who attended Brunswick Academy. Those friendships have lasted a lifetime. Buck started playing football in 1978 and fell in love with the sport. It is amazing the details he could remember from his many games. He also played basketball but often joked that he felt he was more of a training tool to prepare the other players. He was fine with that. Buck’s love for football and Brunswick Academy lasted well into his adulthood, where he served on the Board of Directors and helped coach the Junior Varsity Football team and was famous for the second string known as “Buck’s beagles”. He wanted to give those guys a chance at playing in the game too. Buck loved his family and friends, and he also loved his family farm, Sunnyside, named for the sunny side of the Nottoway River, only about a mile down the road. Buck was a good shepherd. He started in the cattle business with his father right after his graduation from Virginia Tech in 1986. He cared for the land and his cattle with tender loving care and constant vigilance. Many a kid in the area when they would see a cow in any field, not particularly Buck’s, would say “Buck’s Cows!” You could say he had his own brand. After Brunswick Academy, Buck attended Virginia Tech earning a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Agricultural Education. He loved his Hokie Football and was an avid season ticket holder for over twenty years. He was a lifelong member of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church located across from his farm. He served as Senior and Junior Wardens as well as treasurer on the Vestry. A private funeral service will be held at The Church of the Good Shepherd, at the convenience of the family. A Celebration of Life Service will be planned for later in the year when circumstances allow. The family will be forever grateful to the staffs of Chippenham Hospital and Crewe Medical Center for their wonderful care and support.
