Robert Jennings Ferrell

Robert Jennings Ferrell, age 91, a lifelong resident of DeWitt, VA, passed away Monday, November 4, 2024.

A son of the late Willie Wellons Ferrell and Alsie Florence Kinton Ferrell, he was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Andrew Ferrell, as well as all of his siblings.

Mr. Ferrell was a proud U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He retired from VDOT as a Transportation Maintenance Supervisor after more than 41 years of service.

Bobby was active in his community in a number of ways. He coached little league baseball for many years and was a former president of Rocky Run Athletic Association. He was a lifelong member of Rocky Run United Methodist Church and a former Chairman of the Administrative Board. He was a longtime member and past-president of the DeWitt-Rocky Run Ruritan Club, a member of Dinwiddie Masonic Lodge No. 136, and a Past Commander of American Legion Post 149. 

Bobby spent many happy hours at Lake Gaston, where he enjoyed boating and good times spent with his family. He and Agnes enjoyed traveling and took many wonderful trips across the United States and beyond. 

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Agnes Best Ferrell; a daughter, Connie Ferrell Brisendine (John); a son, Neil Wellons Ferrell (Pam); grandchildren, Rachel Faith Brisendine and Joshua Ferrell Brisendine (Lizzy); a great granddaughter, Robin Sage Brisendine; a devoted niece, Nancy Mayer, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Rocky Run United Methodist Church. Interment with Masonic Rites will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the interment.
