Roy Palmer Green

Roy Palmer Green, age 84, of Alberta, VA, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, August 26, 2023. A lifelong resident of Alberta, he was the son of the late Maggie and Roy Green.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joyce Clay Green; daughters, Elizabeth Green Lambert (Brad) and Meredith Palmer Green Steinbraker (Dave); grandchildren, Mason Palmer Steinbraker, Katelyn Joyce Lambert, Carter Miles Steinbraker, and Maggie Grace Steinbraker.

Palmer will be remembered as a small-town southern gentleman. He never met a stranger and was fondly known for his handlebar mustache.  He was a 1960 graduate of Virginia Tech, a member of the prestigious Old Guard, and avid Hokie fan and supporter. Palmer was a dedicated member of the Red Oak Ruritan Club for 57 years. He was a lifelong member of Bethel United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a farmer, and a retired Rural Mail Carrier.

Palmer’s family finds comfort knowing he will be cheering on the Hokies from the good seats.

The family would like to thank the nurses and caregivers with Crater Community Hospice for their compassionate care.    

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at Bethel United Methodist Church, Alberta, VA, followed by interment at Bethel Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m.
