Sandra Jo Saunders Elliott

ELLIOTT Sandra Jo Saunders Elliott, age 67, of Colonial Heights, VA passed away peacefully with her family, January 14, 2018. She is the daughter of the late Jesse Apperson Saunders, Sr. and Mary Catherine Cheely Saunders. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Wayne Elliott and her brother Jesse Apperson Sunders, Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Michelle Elliott and Catherine Ann Stamey and husband Joshua; her grandson, Jack Bailey Stamey; her sister-in-law, Virginia “Jenny” Wilkinson; and her nephew Gregory Wilkinson. Sandra was born and spent her early childhood in Brunswick County Va. Her family relocated to Petersburg, VA in 1960, where she would go on to complete her education, and marry her high school sweetheart. As a young mother, Sandra dedicated her time to keeping her daughters active while working part time. She spent several years as a friendly, helpful face at Thalhimers before joining the management team at the Lafayette House in Petersburg. She was loved by the residents at the Lafayette house for her giving nature and disarming personality. Sandra was a “people person” and both socially and professionally active in the community. She always said that “she never met a stranger.” Sandra loved to travel and was ever curious. She will be remembered for her infectious personality and vivacious spirit. Sandra was a devoted mother to her two daughters and spent her recent years enjoying time with her grandson Jack. She has gone on to join her husband Gerald who departed this earth on January 2nd. Sandra will be laid to rest next to her beloved mother and father at Lebanon United Methodist Church in Rawlings, Va. A graveside service will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 19, 2018 at Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery, Rawlings, VA. Williams Funeral Home, Lawrenceville will be handling the arrangements.
