Thelma Spain Owen

Thelma Spain Owen, 88, of Dinwiddie, went home to be with the Lord on February 28, 2022, at the Bon Secours Community Hospice House with her family by her side.She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul Spain and Josie Schmidt Spain; brothers, Edward Spain and Roy Spain; sister, Myrtle Crawford, and daughter-in-law, Cathy Pratt Owen. Those that were privileged enough to know her knew that she was the sweetest soul you would ever meet. She had a heart of gold and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and cousin. She devoted her life to taking care of her family and loved the Lord. She spent many days working in her flowers and took pride in their beauty She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Tommie Owen, Sr.; her children, Tommie Owen, Jr. (Joan), Marvin Owen (Debbie), John Owen (Cathy), and Amy Owen Marker (Gary); brother, Horace Spain; sister, Sallie Spain Wright, 11 grandchildren, Sunny (Scott), Melissa (Will), Jared (Emily), Chad (Sabine), Scott (Elizabeth), Jamie (Jen), Madelyne (Josh), Andrew, Kendal (Lane), Kassidy, and Palyn, 14 great-grandchildren, Charles, Dixie, Ethan, Brady, Dallas, Colin, Simon, Gabriel, Michael, Christopher, Judah, Elizabeth, Brantley, Casey, and baby Owen on the way. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2022 at Smyrna Baptist Church in Dinwiddie with Pastor Robert Rowland officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity United Methodist Church Cemetery, Church Road, VA. The family will receive friends before the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bon Secours Hospice House at communityhospicehouse.com and Crater Community Hospice at cratercommunityhospice.org.
