W.C. "Jake" Williams

January 25, 1931 — August 22, 2023

W.C. “Jake” Williams, 92, died Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at home in Warfield, Virginia. Jake was born and raised in Brunswick County and was preceded in death by his first wife, Marion (Gauldin) Williams; parents Albert and Susie (Maitland) Williams and siblings Christine Monday, O.L. Williams and Helen Jones.

 

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Virginia (Bishop) Williams; his sons, Vernon Williams, Kenneth Williams (Pam), David Williams, his daughter, Kathryn Rodriquez (Blas) and step-daughters Audrey Martin and Karen Neher (Scott); his grandchildren, Stephanie Khanna (Rajeev), Kimberly Adherold (Dave), Jacob Neher, Maria Rodriquez, Caleb Neher (Alex), and Luke Rodriquez; six great-grandchildren; and his sisters Janette Gammon and Andi Taylor (Preston).

 

Directly after graduation from Alberta High School, Jake attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and upon graduation in 1952 he was commissioned in the U.S. Army. He served during the Korean War as a 1st Lt. and subsequently served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserve for eight years. He returned home to begin work for the Department of Agriculture and spent his career with them until his retirement in 1986.

 

During his work years, he farmed and served on local boards within the community. He was an active member of the Ruritan Club and served as Chairman of the Electoral Board in Brunswick County. He was a faithful member of Ebenezer Community Church for over seventy years and served as Chairman of the Board, Clerk and Chairman of the Cemetery Fund. He taught Sunday School for more than fifty years. Jake took great pride in a good day’s work, his country and his community. Throughout his life, he had many friendships that lasted a lifetime.

 

Visitation will be held Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Ebenezer Community Church and the funeral will be held immediately following at 2:00 p.m. with interment in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ebenezer Community Church Cemetery Fund, 242 Ebenezer Road, Warfield, VA 23889.
