William A. Hudson, age 79, of Lawrenceville, VA, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 5, 2020 while surrounded by his loving family. Born in Columbia, NC, he was the son of the late Arvin Washington and Winifred Swain Hudson. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Rufus Hudson.
Bill’s early working years were in construction. He worked on many large projects all over Virginia including the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. In 1963, Bill joined the Virginia State Police as a State Trooper and was stationed in Fredericksburg, VA when President Kennedy was assassinated. He transferred to Brunswick County in 1967 and became an active and well-respected member of the community. In December of 1971, Bill began employment with Parker Oil Company, Inc. as General Manager and retired in 2009.
Bill was a man of many loves and talents, including gardening, wood-working, and visiting the beach, but above all else was a loving and devoted family man.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Beverly Rose Hudson; daughters, Leslie Hudson Daniel (Jeffries) and Shelly Hudson-Baker (Reggie); grandchildren, Miles Jason Brockwell and Beverly Jordan Baker; a sister, Sandra Hudson Nixon, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at Williams Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, VA. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Massey Cancer Center, P.O. 843042, Richmond, VA 23284.
