William Gaines Barkley

William “Bill” Gaines Barkley, age 70, a resident of Richmond, VA, formerly of Lawrenceville, VA, peacefully passed away Saturday, December 30, 2023.

Bill, son of the late Raymond Rawlings and Allene Gaines Barkley, was born in Richmond, VA on May 22, 1953 and raised in Lawrenceville, VA. As a youth, Bill worked in his parents’ hardware store, Sledge & Barkley. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force and was discharged under honorable conditions in 1973.

Bill is survived by two sisters, Brenda Barkley Lee (Sam) and Elizabeth “Beth” Barkley Smith (Mickey); one brother, Raymond Rawlings “Bud” Barkley, Jr. (Marion); niece, Lacey Elizabeth Lee and Stephanie Bland Smith (Adam); nephew, Samuel Womack Lee, III (deceased) and numerous beloved cousins.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 5, 2024 at Oakwood Cemetery, Lawrenceville, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a veteran organization of your choice. Williams Funeral Home of Lawrenceville is in charge of arrangements.
