Minnie Clarke Washburn

Minnie Clarke Washburn, 91, of Lawrenceville, VA passed away September 22, 2019. Minnie was born June 25, 1928 in Triplet, Virginia. She was a beautician in her home for 50 years. She is predeceased by her parents, Peter A. and Ethel N. Clarke; her brothers, James and Charlie Clarke; and her sister, Rosa Powell. Minnie, our Mom and our Nanny, will be lovingly remembered and missed by her husband of 73 years, Earl W. Washburn; four children, Everett Earl and wife Robbie, Keith and wife Judy, June Love and Kent and wife Beverly; her ten grandchildren, Amanda, Heather (Iain), Daniel (Dawn), Wilson (Brandi), Julie, Shanna, Alicia, Everett (Christy), Laura (Chris), and Collin; her thirteen great grandchildren, Caitlin, Blake, Nelia, Gracie, Luke, Jack, Sean, Grant, Aubreigh, Carson, Carter, Myles and Everett, III; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at Lawrenceville United Methodist Church with interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Lawrenceville. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:00 to 11:00 at the church, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lawrenceville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 2 Lawrenceville, VA. 23868. Mildred Capps Christopher, age 87, of Emporia, VA passed away September 14, 2019. She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Florence Capps; her husband, William Edgar Christopher; and her sister, Rosa Blythe. Anthony Stephen Woyer

Anthony “Tony” Stephen Woyer, age 55, of Gasburg, VA passed away September 7, 2019. He is the son of the late Lawrence and Margaret Woyer. He is survived by his wife, Carol L. Woyer; his step-sons, Timothy, Nicholas and Hunter Powell; his granddaughters, Evelyn, Lucille and Charlie; his sister, Cindy Woyer; his brothers, Andrew Woyer and wife Margaret, Michael Woyer and wife Lucinda and Mark Woyer and wife Teresa; his nieces and nephews, Shawn, Kenny, Justin, Nicholas, Jessica, Casey, Rachel, Samantha, Lindsey and Matthew; and his beloved dog Rocket. A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Williams Funeral Home, Lawrenceville. The family will receive friends after the service. Elaine Jones Lucy, age 95, of Freeman, VA passed away September 3, 2019. She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Ola Brantley Jones; her husband, Robert Elder Lucy; her son, Robert Elder Lucy, Jr.; and her son-in-law, Robert L. Reese. She is survived by her daughter, JoAnn Lucy; her son, June Martin Lucy and wife Diane; her daughter-in-law, Linda Lucy; her grandchildren, Jared Lucy, Jenna Elaine Lucy, Andrew Robert Lucy and Kristin Moseley and husband Larry; her great grandchildren, Matthew and Nathan Moseley; and her sister, Margaret Ligon. Debra Louise Reekes Edmonds, age 66, of Richmond, VA passed away August 20, 2019. She is preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Christine Reekes and her brother, Freddie Reekes. She is survived by her love for 14 years, Graham Haddock; her children, Scott Edmonds and wife Michelle, Ashley Edmonds Walters and husband Byron, Elizabeth Jones and husband David, Paula Haddock and partner Tobias Sturmer and Rebecca Morse; her grandchildren, Madison and Jackson Walters, Ryan Edmonds, Casey, Daniel and Ethan Jones, and Sebastian and Narelle Morse; her sister-in-law, Peggy Reekes; her nieces and their families, Monica R. Morris, Melissa R. Rose and Melanie R. Newby; and her grand-dog, Banjo. A memorial service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 30, 2019 at Williams Funeral Home, Lawrenceville. William Ward Moseley

William Ward Moseley, AIA, passed away quietly July 23, 2019, at the age of 89. He was surrounded by family in his Naples, Fla., home. Four days later on July 27, 2019, his wife of 36 years, Patricia S. Moseley, also passed away at their home. Bill was born in Lawrenceville, Va., on March 26, 1930. After earning an architectural degree from Virginia Tech in 1952, he went to work in Richmond, Va., where he eventually started his own firm 50 years ago. Today, Moseley Architects has offices in 10 Mid-Atlantic cities. Bill received many architectural honors, including Virginia Small Businessperson of the Year in 1983, where he was honored with other state winners at a Rose Garden reception at the White House in Washington, D.C. After retirement, Bill pursued his love of painting and enjoyed a second award-winning career as an artist. He published several books of his paintings and showed work throughout the Southeast. He was most active in the Lake Gaston, Naples and Marco Island art communities. A past President of the Alumni Association, Bill loved all things Virginia Tech, especially football season. He enjoyed a lifetime playing golf, and the couple spent years of time with family and friends at "Birdsong," their home on Lake Gaston, N.C. Bill was predeceased by his father, William Stuart Moseley; mother, Annie Duke Moseley; and sister, Mary Stuart Moseley. He is survived by sons, William Ward Moseley II of Nags Head, N.C. and Robert Moncure Moseley and wife, Ellen, of St. Augustine, Fla. Bill had five grandchildren, Teal, Emma, Leda, Jewel and Hart. He had six great-grandchildren. Funeral services and a reception for both Bill and Pat are 2 p.m. Saturday, August 17, 2019, at Prospect United Methodist Church in Ebony, Va. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

Alice Gibbs Clay, age 81, of Bracey, VA passed away August 12, 2019. She is preceded in death by her parents, Denning and Ola Mae Gibbs; her son, Ernest Wilson Clay, III; her sisters, Ann Rash and Thurman Brown; and her brothers, Elton and Norban Gibbs. She is survived by her husband, Ernest Wilson Clay, Jr.; her daughter, Pamela E. Bland; her son, Wesley Dwayne Clay; her grandchildren, Heather C. Bland, Sean C. Bland, Hunter Wilson Clay, Austin Davis Clay and Payton Scearce; her great grandchildren, Lily V. Donovan, Jacob T. Donovan and Rosemarie N. Bland; her brothers, Warren, Larry and Earl Gibbs; and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church Cemetery, Cochran, VA. Williams Funeral Home, Lawrenceville will be handling the arrangements.

John Carson Peebles

John Carson Peebles, age 72, of Lawrenceville, VA passed away August 6, 2019. He is the son of the late Lawrence and Marie Peebles-Wright. He is preceded in death by two brothers, James A. Peebles and Robert S. Peebles, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Cheryl; his son Bryan; his daughter Tanya and husband Chris; his brother, E. Maxey Peebles (Wanda); his sister, Emily Mayton (Bennie); sister-in-law, Trena Peebles; and many loved nieces and nephews, family and friends. Johnny served three years in the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. He had recently retired after 47 years with the Virginia Department of Transportation. Johnny was a long time member of the Lawrenceville Lions Club where he served as Treasurer. The family will receive friends Monday, August 12, 2019, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home, Lawrenceville. Patricia Ann Moseley

Patricia Ann Moseley, 72, died July 27, 2019, after a long battle with rheumatoid arthritis and related illnesses. A Memorial service will be held Saturday, August 17th, at 2:00 at Prospect United Methodist Church, Ebony, VA for Pat and her husband, William Ward Moseley, who died 4 days earlier. Pat and Bill spent their early retirement years at Lake Gaston, where Bill, with Pat's assistance, developed a second career as an artist. Pat was also a crucial contributor in designing and developing their home in Naples, FL. She was also a participant in philanthropic activities as much as her health would allow. Always with a smile and a laugh, she was a friend and motivator to many. She is survived by her twin brother, Michael Salmon and his wife, Jon Lee; a niece Tiffany Sanchez, as well as 2 Step-sons, and 5 Step-grandchildren. There will be a Celebration of Life service for Pat and Bill at Wesley United Methodist Church, Marco Island, FL in October.

Sallie Seymour, age 85, of Burtonsville, MD, formerly of Brodnax, VA passed away July 28, 2019. She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Katharine Seymour and her brother, Spencer Seymour. She is survived by her sister, Marion Spence of Lawrenceville, VA, a nephew and several nieces. A memorial service will be held at Burnt Mills Seventh-day Adventist Church in Silver Springs, MD on Saturday August 3, 2019 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Burial will be Monday, August 5, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Canaan Church Cemetery in Brodnax, VA.
