Frances graduated from Longwood College and taught school for several years before going to work for the federal Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (A.S.C.S.), in Lawrenceville, Virginia, where she worked until her retirement. She was an active member of the Southside Homemakers Club and in retirement was very active in the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), as well as serving in leadership roles at her retirement home, Brookdale Imperial Plaza, where she was on the Residents’ Council, and a member of the Imperial Plaza Foundation Board. The family would like to thank the staff at the Azalea Building for treating Mrs. Rawlings with kindness and love, as well as Dale Lipke and the hospice staff of Aseracare. The service for Frances will be held at Williams Funeral Home, Lawrenceville, Virginia on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at 2 PM with interment immediately following the service at the Rock United Methodist Church Cemetery. Anita Perkins West, age 61, of Danieltown, VA passed away January 26, 2017. She is preceded in death by her father, James B. Perkins and survived by her mother, Velma Capps Perkins; her husband, Rev. Ronnie Dwight West; her children, Jennifer Iman and husband Jim, James West and wife Stacey, and Stacey Lynn Higgins and husband Pat; her grandchildren, Lily, Olivia and Matthew Iman, Rachel, Caleb and Caroline West, and Baily Higgins; her sisters, Linda Barton, Janet Thompson and husband Kevin and Donna K. Stotesbury and husband Wayne; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Al Malone, age 90, of Lawrenceville, VA passed away January 29, 2017. He is the son of the late William W. “Buck” and Norma Malone. He is survived by his wife Peggy Malone; his son, Tony Lee Malone and wife Anita; his sisters, Jean Brockwell and Joan Berry; his brothers, Jerry Malone and William Earl Malone; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Alma King Carter, age 91, of Lawrenceville, VA formerly of Suffolk passed away February 6, 2017. She is the daughter of the late Waverly and Bessie King. She is survived by her two children, William Gary Turner and wife Judy and Shirley Turner Cooper; four grandchildren, Laura Griffin, David Babb (Cyndi), Brian Babb (Dee), and Joe Turner (Isabelle); two great grandchildren, Noell Babb and Tammi Richeson (Asher); and two great great grandchildren, Amarah and Harper Richeson.

Jesse Carroll Roberts, age 92, of Lawrenceville, VA passed away February 6, 2017. He was born in Dolphin, VA to the late Lindsey and Bertha Roberts. He was a member of Liberty Methodist Church in Dolphin, VA and attended Edgerton United Methodist Church in Lawrenceville where he enjoyed helping with the mens breakfast. In his later years he attended Ocran United Methodist Church in Sutherland. Jesse and Madeline owned and operated the Lawrenceville Dari Treat; he then found his passion in life and started his own business as a Painting Contractor. When he wasn’t working he was enjoying fishing and watching his beloved Atlanta Braves. He is preceded in death by his wife, Madeline Malone Roberts; two sisters, Elisabeth Temple and Hildridge Lucy, his brothers, Allen, Gordon and Charles Roberts. He is survived by his two daughters, Carroll Lynch and husband Paul and Ann House and husband Larry; his grandchildren, Chris Lynch and wife Kim, Jennifer H. Hinshaw and husband Richard and Ashton House and wife Leigh Ann; his great grandchildren, McKinley, Coleman and Annalise Hinshaw and Emma and Luke House; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bobby Ray Roberts, Sr., age 71, of Gasburg, VA passed away February 6, 2017. He was the son of the late Ernest Martin Roberts and Willie Collie Roberts. He is preceded in death by two sisters, Marion McNeil and Geraldine Marston; and four brothers, William E. Roberts, Carlton C. Roberts, Frank D. Roberts and Floyd A. Roberts. He is survived by his children, Tina Howerton (Roy), Bubba Roberts (Tonya), Anthony Roberts (Bronwyn), and Brian Roberts (Kimberly); six grandchildren, Alexis Howerton, Baleigh Roberts, Davis Roberts, Camden Roberts, Evan Roberts and Alaina Jane Roberts; his brother, George W. Roberts (Mary); and two sisters, Lula Hammond (J.D.) and Rebecca Corum (Neil).

Burton Lee Doggett III, age 63, of Ladysmith, VA and Kill Devil Hills, N.C. peacefully set sail on his final adventure February 1st, 2017. He was the son of the late Jean B. Doggett and Lt. Cmdr. USN Burton Lee Doggett Jr. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Libby Jean Doggett; his beloved dogs, Ginny and Socks; a brother, David; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of loving friends. Burt graduated from The Blue Ridge School and attended Averett College. He was the manager of The Virginia Bazaar for the last 17 years but, his first love was the water. He traveled the world from Dubai to Singapore as a commercial fisherman and merchant marine. Burt loved an adventure, to travel and to fish.
I’ve finished life’s chores assigned to me, so put me on a boat headed out to sea. Please send along my fishing pole for I’ve been invited to the fishin’ hole. Where every day is a day to fish, to fill your heart with every wish. Don’t worry, or feel sad for me, I’m fishin’ with the Master of the sea. We will miss each other for a while, but you will come and bring your smile. That won’t be long you will see, till we’re together you and me. Elsie Buckner Clary, age 81, of Lawrenceville, Va. passed away January 10, 2017. She is the daughter of the late Wilbur and Sadie Buckner. She is preceded in death by two brothers, William and Gilbert Buckner and two sisters, Marie Gordon and Frances Pearson. She is survived by her loving husband, Smithy G. Clary; her two daughters, Rhonda Yates Grimsley and husband Wayne and Andrea Walker and husband Will; two grandchildren, Rachel and Madelyn Walker; her twin sister, Ella Connell and husband Carlton; her sister-in-law, Theresa Buckner; and extended family. Louise R. Rogers, 90, passed away June 27, 2015 at the Sanctuary of Holy Cross Nursing Home in Burtonsville, MD. Mrs. Rogers was a retired nurse from the University of Virginia Hospital. Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by her husband, W. Keeling Rogers, and her daughter, the Reverend Doctor Elizabeth B. Rogers; two brothers; and one sister.
