Diane "Totsie" Elizabeth Carroll

Diane “Totsie” Elizabeth Carroll, age 73, of Matoaca, VA, passed away Friday, February 21, 2020. Born in Petersburg, VA, she was the daughter of the late Margaret S. and Joseph D. Holmes, and was also preceded in death by a son, Michael Gregory Barricks and a grandchild, Shaya Janae Bailey. She is survived by her children, Lori Barricks Blalock (Perry) Stanley Madison Barricks, Glenn Todd Barricks (Audra) and Claiborne Lee Bailey (Melanie) grandchildren, John, Michael, Kayla, Justin, Madison, Cody, Beau, and Myah, several great-grandchildren; a brother, Dr. William H. Carroll, Jr.; a sister, Sheila H. Moore (Jimmy); an aunt, Cecil S. Estep, as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins. A graveside funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 29, 2020 at East Matoaca Cemetery. Frances Lawrence Wilkerson

Frances Lawrence Wilkerson, age 93, of Valentines, VA passed away February 12, 2020. She is the daughter of the late Clarence and Maude Lawrence. She is preceded in death by her husband, Rial Edward Wilkerson; four sisters and one brother. She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Hargrave and husband Barry of Littleton, N.C. and Brenda Rogers of Valentines, VA; her grandson, Christopher Hargrave and wife Kay of Auburn, AL; her great granddaughter, Kinman Kate Hargrave; and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at Southlawn Memorial Park, South Prince George, VA. Dewayne Charles Misner, age 59, of Lawrenceville, VA passed away February 6, 2020. He is missed and loved very much by all who knew him. In the words of his family he was the greatest Husband, Dad, Grandfather, and Brother, and we love him very much, Forever and Ever and Always. He is survived by his wife, Pamela Elaine Misner; his Mother, Twyla Misner; his Sons, Jeremy Dewayne Misner and Wife Aeriel, Josh William Misner and Wife Melissa and Jared Anthony Misner and Fiancé Amanda; his Grandchildren, Gabriel, Luke, Sarah, Claire, Zackary, Krista and Jace Axl; his brothers, Steve Misner and Bradley Misner; his sisters, Beverly Shivek and Sally Brocius; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded by his daughter, Holly Noel and his father, Kenneth Misner. Bobby N. Powell, age 72, of Richmond, Va., formerly of Freeman, Va. passed away January 22, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel L. and Ellen M. Powell; and all of his siblings. He is survived by his wife, Laura Powell; daughter, Brandy Doyle (Geoffrey); stepson, Adam Meador (Lisa); four grandchildren, Adam Meador, Aubrey, Maeve and Samuel Doyle; several nieces and nephews and his faithful companion, “Fifi” who spent many hours by his side. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am, Saturday, at Williams Funeral Home, Lawrenceville, with interment at Reedy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Freeman, Va. Archer B. Clary, age 94, of Gasburg, VA passed away January 21, 2020. A.B. was a WWII Army Veteran and received the Purple Heart Award. He was a lifelong member of Olive Branch United Methodist Church. A.B. is preceded in death by his daughter, Diane Shoop. He is survived by his wife, Lenora “Polly” Bowen Clary; his children, Tommy Clary and wife Gayle, Carol Baird and husband Kenneth and Ronnie Harrison and wife Meg; his son-in-law, Russell Shoop; his grandchildren, Dale Shoop (Liz), T.C. Shoop, Nicole Lomerson (Stephen), Matthew Clary, Lisa Horoszewski (Devin), Melissa Chouinard (Trey) and Christie Harrison; his great grandchildren, Audrey and Caroline Shoop, Archer and Braeden Shoop, Emma and Aidan Lomerson and Asher, Maggie and Claire Chouinard. Jean Wright McCarter, age 77, of Valentines, VA passed away January 8, 2020. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Elwood McCarter, III; and niece, Madisen Wright and sister in law, Peggy McCarter Johnson. Jean is survived by her sisters, Lucille Wright of Norridge, Illinois, and Patricia Teske of Maple Grove, Minnesota; her brother Robert Wright and his wife Sandra of Tampa, Florida; her nieces Jamey and Lindsay Wright, Erin McCarter Wright (Stuart), Maureen Frank (Philip), Emily DeVries (Chaise), and Cindy, Laurie and Kelly Zolad; her brother in law, Mark Johnson; as well as many cousins, other relatives and friends. Mary Alice Ellington Thomas

THOMAS Mary Alice Ellington Thomas, age 84, of Lawrenceville, VA went to be with her Lord on January 5, 2020. She is the daughter of the late Raymond and Lilla Ellington of South Hill, and is preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Eugene Thomas. A graduate of Longwood College, Mary Alice married her high school sweetheart Gene before they both embarked on their professional careers in Richmond. Mary Alice served as Secretary for Judge Ralph Catterall of the Virginia State Corporation Commission. When Gene and Mary Alice moved back to Lawrenceville, she taught full time at Brunswick Senior High School until her first son was born. She continued to teach part time as a substitute English teacher. Mary Alice later served for many years as the Secretary-Treasurer of Brunswick Insurance Agency. Mary Alice was active in community life through civic and school organizations, including as Worthy Matron of Brunswick County Chapter #20, Order of the Eastern Star. Mary Alice and Gene were members together of Edgerton United Methodist Church for nearly 60 years. For many years they led the youth fellowship group and taught Sunday School. It was a rare occasion for a church activity to take place without one or both of them participating.Mary Alice loved her Lord and modeled his love to her family, her church, and her community. Her family, however, was #1 in Mary Alice’s life beginning with her husband Gene. Her two favorite titles were not professional ones - they were “Mom” and “Memaw”. Whether in health or sickness, Memaw always gave sacrificially of herself to serve her family, and treasured every visit by child or grandchild. She considered herself blessed to see the birth of so many grandchildren, who seemed to just renew her youth beyond her actual years. Her family has been blessed to know and learn from her. While we will miss her dearly, we have the sure hope of being with her again in Heaven. She is survived by her sons, Michael Thomas and wife Stacey and Ray Thomas and wife Pam; six grandchildren, Ashley, Brooke, Alec, Ariel, Katie and Ellie; seven great grandchildren, Aiden, ChloeLise, Paris, Beck, Delilah, Calvin and Jesse; and her caregivers, Eva Wilson and Bernadette Stith. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Edgerton United Methodist Church Cemetery, Lawrenceville, VA. Marjorie Clarke Ellis, widow of Francis M. Ellis, of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, formerly of Lawrenceville, VA passed away Thursday, January 2, 2020. She was 94 years old, born to the union of the late Walter and Adna Mitchell Clarke. Marjorie was a former store clerk for Peebles Department Store and member of Camargo Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Francis Marion Ellis, Sr. She is survived by her son, Frankie Ellis and fiancé Ginni; three grandchildren, Melissa (James) Swango, Amanda (Chris) Blevins and Teresa Brooke Chesteen; seven great-grandchildren, Patrick Swango, Gabrielle Swango, Ethan Chesteen, Mia Chesteen, Payton Chesteen, Skylar Blevins, and Haley Guy; two sisters, Marie Peebles and Barbara Carpenter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
